Character upgrades, not card upgrades
Character upgrades improve your ability to work through the rubbish. The official store describes becoming faster and more efficient at clearing it, while official updates discuss attribute purchases and revised shop prices. This page covers that character progression.
Card quality exchanges are different. They use eligible duplicate cards rather than establishing a character stat build. For those exchanges, use the Cards Hub. For the overall work and collection systems, use Gameplay.
What is currently confirmed
- The game has purchasable upgrades and attributes that can reach a maximum.
- The August 21 patch rebalanced upgrade prices, so a launch-day cost table can be outdated.
- Steam achievements recognize buying an upgrade, buying 20 upgrades, maximizing one attribute and maximizing all attributes.
- The August 22 notes connect maxing all attributes to a cereal-box purchase option.
The reviewed official material does not give a complete attribute-name list, level-by-level effects, caps or cost curve. This guide therefore does not fill a table with guessed stat names or claim an exact best upgrade order. Read the descriptions and prices in your current build for the choices actually available to you.
Practical priorities before a purchase
Use this checklist to make a decision rather than copying an unverified ranking:
- Identify a recurring slowdown. Which part of the normal search and clearing cycle are you trying to improve?
- Read the displayed effect. Choose based on what the game says that upgrade changes, not an assumption about its name or icon.
- Check the current price and your goal. Consider whether the purchase would conflict with a cash milestone or collection plan. See the Money Guide.
- Assess the result before spending again. Comparing your experience after a purchase is a practical check, not a controlled performance test or proof that the same order is best for everyone.
Do not attribute extra card drops, better foil odds or higher treasure prices to an upgrade unless its current description or reliable evidence confirms that effect.
Early, middle and late progression
The following are recommended priorities based on confirmed mechanics, not guaranteed efficiency advice.
Early: understand the work first
Learn the core loop and inspect finds before committing to several purchases. The Beginner Guide provides a starting sequence. An upgrade decision is easier to evaluate once you know which action you want to improve.
Middle: compare growth with other goals
Review your current shop options and money balance together. A purchase can advance character growth while delaying a cash-held milestone; that is a choice between goals, not evidence that the upgrade is bad. No verified payback period is available here.
Late: decide whether all attributes are your target
Maxing all attributes has a documented collection connection. In the August 22 update, Jenny's cereal box costs $10,000 and is available after every attribute is maxed. The Cereal Boxes Guide explains the purchase gate and its limits.
That unlock does not prove an optimal route to reach it, a fixed total upgrade cost or a guaranteed foil from the purchased box. Leave room in your plans for the purchase itself rather than assuming max attributes makes boxes free.
Upgrade milestones and missing progress
Use the achievements reference for the documented purchase and maximum-attribute milestones. A missing notification alone does not establish that a purchase failed; the official August 21 notes describe achievement fixes as well as save fixes.
If attributes disappear after loading, stop buying replacements to test the problem. Follow Save Not Working and preserve your last good state. The developers documented money and upgrade resets when moving from the demo to release, with card collection preserved; do not apply that explanation to an unrelated full-release save without checking its history.

No universal first purchase has been verified here. Compare the available effects with the action slowing you down, and use the current price instead of a remembered launch-day value.
Do character upgrades improve card condition?
The reviewed sources do not establish that link. Duplicate-card exchanges and fragment repair are documented card systems; they should not be presented as character attributes.
